Leigh Taylor Johnson, M.S.
Marine Advisor, San Diego County
Johnson’s research and education program on coastal water-quality and invasive species provides research-based information to boat owners and boating businesses, agency staff, policy makers, academics and members of environmental organizations.
Her focus is on reducing pollution from copper-based antifouling paints on recreational boats, and preventing and controlling transportation of saltwater aquatic invasive species on hulls of boats traveling on the California and Baja California coasts. Johnson also advises the Clean Marinas California program that certifies marinas, harbors and yacht clubs using the best management practices for preventing pollution.
Along with other authors, Johnson has produced a series of booklets, fact sheets, posters, CDs and a documentary DVD (some in both English and Spanish) dealing with boat pollution and invasive species prevention. She conducts workshops and seminars and publishes a Web site on these topics.
