What you Need to Know About Nontoxic Antifouling Strategies for Boats

This educational booklet summarizes:
1) Technical information on currently available nontoxic antifouling strategies for recreational boats;
2) Copper antifouling paint policies in the U.S. and Europe;
3) Toxic effects of copper on marine life.
As new regulations are passed to reduce copper levels in urban boat basins in San Diego and Orange Counties, the UC Sea Grant Extension Program’s educational outreach will help boaters switch to nontoxic antifouling strategies. This will help to preserve the marine life and clean water that support the birds and fish that boaters enjoy in a day on the water!
