Olin’s research and outreach programs address a diverse range of topics.

Aquaculture

• Working at the state and national level to promote science-based
policies that govern aquaculture development.

• Assisting shellfish industry members with methods for improving production.

Fisheries

• Collaborating in a tagging program with the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) and commercial and recreational fishermen to develop a better understanding of halibut populations in the region from Bodega Bay to San Francisco Bay.

Salmon Recovery

• Collaborating with colleagues in CDFG and NOAA Fisheries to restore coho salmon to historical habitat in the Russian River system.

In addition, Olin’s background enables him to provide guidance to owners of small farm and irrigation ponds on fish stocking, managing water quality and the control of aquatic vegetation.
